Storytelling
Black Dads Diaries Podcast aka We In Progress, how we are Evolving...
WE IN PROGRESS was an audio-visual art project by BLACK DADS GERMANY, in collaboration with Yero Adugna Eticha (Black in Berlin). Originally launched during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 as Black Dads Listening. The project began as a monologue series rooted in the African oral tradition, spotlighting the autobiographical stories of Black fathers in Germany. These fathers' experiences in a majority-white society have often been overlooked. The project evolved into WE IN PROGRESS, creating safe spaces for Black individuals and reflective spaces for white allies, with an emphasis on the lost virtue of listening. Enriched by Eticha's portrait photography, these stories are archived as time capsules for future generations. Upcoming is a podcast titled Black Dads Diaries, which will explore the journey of Black fathers in Germany, continuing to provide realistic and empathetic insights into their lives.
PODCAST, how it started...
The Black Dads Germany Podcast kicked off as a space to share the unique experiences of Black fathers navigating life in Germany. But after a few episodes, we hit pause—no cliffhanger, just a plot twist. We turned our focus to community building instead.
But don’t worry, the podcast didn’t disappear into the void! You can still find some insightful gems on Spotify, where they’ve been aging like fine wine. This little detour brought us to the Black Dads Listening sessions, which have since leveled up into We In Progress.
And now, after growing, evolving, and fine-tuning our vision, we’re thrilled to announce that Black Dads Germany is ready to relaunch the podcast in January 2025! Get ready for even more stories, and conversations that matter. Stay tuned—we’re just getting started!
