Black Dads Diaries (Podcast) aka We In Progress
ABOUT
We Are Black Dads Germany
Black Dads Germany (BDG) is a groundbreaking community and movement designed to empower Black fathers and redefine Black fatherhood in German society.
Founded by Alain, BDG provides a space where Black men can connect, share experiences, and support one another in their journey as fathers.
By promoting positive role models and fostering unity, BDG works to challenge harmful stereotypes about Black masculinity and fatherhood, while also amplifying Black narratives in culture, especially through children's literature.
BDG is not just about creating a safe space for fathers—it’s about building a supportive network that uplifts Black families and strengthens communities across the country.
APPROACH
Empowering Local Leadership
The strength of BDG lies in its unique approach to organizing and scaling its community. Alain has introduced a highly replicable model that encourages Black fathers to establish their own local groups and adopt BDG’s easy-to-follow formats. This low-threshold, accessible approach allows dads to host gatherings, events, and activities that fit the needs of their local communities, while still being part of a larger, national movement.
Each father in BDG is empowered to become a leader and changemaker. With mentorship and support from the central BDG network, these dads are given the tools to create impactful, local chapters where they can lead by example. From organizing discussions on fatherhood and masculinity to hosting community events in public spaces, these fathers are not only building connections within their communities but also challenging the status quo by showcasing positive images of Black men and fathers.
This approach has allowed the BDG movement to grow rapidly, with over 1,000 dads in seven cities across Germany actively participating. By activating fathers at the local level, BDG creates a ripple effect—one that strengthens communities, challenges racial stereotypes, and fosters a culture of positive Black fatherhood. Each local chapter is a beacon of change, helping to redefine what it means to be a Black dad in Germany.

Black Dads' Voices:
Snippets of our story
We in Progress
We in progress, voices rise,
Stories told beneath the skies.
Born in times of silence, pain,
Black fathers' truths, not told in vain.
In monologues, their lives unfold,
In a world that's cold, yet bold.
African roots in whispers spun,
Listening, the work begun.
Safe spaces for Black hearts to share,
Reflective minds with tender care.
Portraits captured, time stands still,
For future souls to learn and feel.
The journey of a Black dad's stride,
In Germany, with love and pride.
Their stories flow, like rivers wide,
We in Progress, side by side.
